Opera Announces Upcoming Integration of AI-generated Content Services into Browser

Opera, one of the world's foremost browser developers, has declared that it is integrating AI-generated content (AIGC) services into its PC and mobile browsers, as well as expanding its existing AI program into AIGC. This initiative will enable Opera to provide its browser, news, and gaming products with its own solutions, as well as through new and existing partnerships.

The proliferation of AI-based services is rapidly changing how products can be used and what consumers expect from them. For example, ChatGPT has gained over 100 million users in an incredibly short period of time. As a result, Opera has decided to introduce AI integration which follows on from allowing its users direct access to some of the internet's most sought-after platforms, like TikTok, Telegram, and WhatsApp.

"In more than 25 years of our company's history, we have always been at the forefront of browser innovation. Whether inventing browser tabs or providing our users with built-in access to generative AI tools, we always push the limits of what's possible on the web," said Song Lin, Co-CEO of Opera. "Following the mass interest in generative AI tools, we believe it's now time for browsers to step up and become the gateway to an AI-powered web".

"We see the rise of Generative Intelligence as the beginning of a new future in which consumer app developers like Opera will be able to build experiences on top of AI-based platforms. We are excited to see the rapid roll-out of developer programs for solutions such as Google Bard, for example, and are starting to build and roll out new experiences in web browsing that not very long ago seemed impossible to achieve," added Per Wetterdal, Head of Strategic Partnerships and AI ecosystem.

Enhancing Browser Functionality through Artificial Intelligence

Opera is currently working on a new function for its browser: a “Shorten” button in the address bar that will use AI to generate a summary of a webpage or article. This feature will help users make the most of their browsing experience by giving them a quick overview of the content and saving them time. With this feature, Opera is looking to provide a more efficient, streamlined way to access content on the Web. The “Shorten” button will be the first of a series of popular AI-generated content services to be added to the browser.

Web users are inundated with more content than they can possibly comprehend. As AI grants us the ability to generate written content quickly, the amount of material will continue to grow. To help users, Opera has created an AI-powered solution to filter through vast amounts of content and provide relevant summaries.

"It is Opera's belief that with AI solutions springing up both for text, image, and audio generation and in countless other forms, we are at the brink of a new era of creativity on the Web. That's why we're reshaping the browser to allow our users to tap into all these resources and to unfold their full potential in the best possible way," said Krystian Kolondra, EVP PC Browsers and Gaming at Opera.
