Create a Directory Using Linux Command Line

To create a directory in Linux takes just one simple command, mkdir. Using the following will create a directory called 'fred' Just replace 'fred' with whatever name you want to call your directory.

mkdir fred

mkdir command

Now we use the Linux ls command to check the directory was created successfully.

ls

ls After mkdir Command

We can also use the -v argument to create a directory and receive a little more feedback about the process.

mkdir jack -v

This command creates the directory 'jack' and confirms it was created successfully.
